New Years Eve
Well, it bucketted down and kept some things quiet. The fireworks at Anzac Park went off without a hitch. There are 2 sessions at Port Douglas, one at 9:00pm and another at midnight. In between you can tune in to the TV and see Melbourne and Sydney fireworks at 11:00pm.
We noticed a lot of young families heading back to their accommodation just befor 9:00pm. I can only guess that they did not know that the fireworks were on. Tourist information places, please put that in your diary to tell visitors next year.
The 9:00pm session went on for 10 minutes. It surprised and delighted the crowd. It also surprised several hundred Rainbow Lorikeets sleeping in a tree near the firing point.

28 Dec 09. Still working on the qwe.com.au travelogue and are spending some time in Port Douglas. We are looking for the good deals for travelers and finding some. The stand out so far is the Sunday breakfast at Marina View Restaurant. It is a buffet for $15 per person. Cereal, fresh fruit, pasteries, eggs, toast, bacon, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, chipolatas, hash browns, tea and coffee. Eat as much as you like. Fantastic. At Marina Mirage.

Nice and quiet Christmas in Port Douglas unlike the boistrous celebrations in Cairns. Both pubs and the two clubs open again today, Boxing Day. The 32 degree fine days are tipped to change tonight with thunderstorms predicted by the Weather Bureau.
