Great Barrier Reef Drive

From the Cairns Post - on line:

"THE picturesque drive from Cairns to Cape Tribulation will now be known as the Great Barrier Reef Drive after getting the nod from State Government.
The idea to brand the 140km section of the Captain Cook Highway and Cape Tribulation Rd has been three years in the making and is set to rival Victoria’s Great Ocean Rd.

Tourism Port Douglas Daintree executive officer Tara Bennett said an agreement had been reached between the tourism body, Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ), Douglas Shire Council, Main Roads and the Wet Tropics Management Authority to start marketing the drive."

The Cairns Post on line articles don't get many comments, this one had 18 comments within 24hours:

It just goes to show how out of touch some of these organisations are with normal people and how much they care for the safety of ourselves and our visitors.

Commercial Wildlife Viewing Vessel

8 Passenger Vessel currently in Daintree.

For Sale - $22 000

Easy entry into the lucrative tourism industry.

The reputation that Daintree has for seeing wildlife was established by wildlife viewing boats like this one.

Large enough to handle an eco-tourism group but small enough to access the more interesting parts of the Daintree River system. (This is where the 50 seaters cannot go because of their size and crippling speed restrictions for larger boats.)

Rarely do these vessels come up for sale. They are a delight to drive and can be used privately and also used for filming nature documentaries for which the Daintree is famous.

A NEW APPROACH - Curated travel in Port Douglas.

BINDU MEDIA - Worldwide

Like many locals, visitors and tour operators I am disheartened by the absolute rubbish that gets written about Port Douglas Daintree by visiting journalists.

That is where I come in. I am not visiting, I am not getting free things and I have a passion for accuracy in reporting on a place where I have lived for more than 30 years. On top of that my partner and I are experienced in tourism here. We pioneered dawn wildlife tours and B & B accommodation in the Douglas Shire. We were also the first bloggers and App writers.

Today I have started on the BINDU Media guide to Port Douglas Daintree.

In the first line of my brief:
Be authoritative, conversational, enthusiastic but candid and direct in your writing style.

Beware of Crocodiles on Douglas Shire beaches

Facebook posting yesterday 15 Jul 15, by local man of a big croc at Cooya Beach.

We have had 2 croc attacks this year, one an elderly man on a golf course in Port Douglas and another at Daintree where a pet dog was taken.

As he says beware.

Visitors show interest in the "Keys to Port Douglas Visitor's Guide"

Responsive website for visitor's mobile devices

The Keys to Port Douglas have been around for 3 years and been modified many times to fit the changing technology.

I was able to show the Keys and the Coastcare walk to 3 visitors yesterday and noticed that people accept this technology more readily than in previous years. With all the hype about innovation and business opportunities in the paper and Mayoral Messages wouldn't it be good to see some Port Douglas Daintree tourism identities come onboard and use the Keys to everyone's advantage?

Strong Wind Warning yesterday, today and tomorrow...

Screenshot of weather radar from the "Keys to Port Douglas"

Strong wind warning yesterday, today and tomorrow. Bit of rain about? On holiday? What will we do?

Firstly put the "Keys to Port Douglas" on your phone.
Then you can access the weather radar and plan your day. See the rain in Daintree? That is exactly where the Daintree River delta is. That strong wind we are experiencing pushes the rain cloud into a natural funnel and explains why Daintree gets more rain than Port Douglas.
So while that rain stays like that forget a Daintree River trip. When it comes clear take a Daintree River Tour - maybe a dawn trip before the wind comes in?

What to do around Port Douglas?
Take a guided or non-guided walk around the headland and see some really interesting things:

Living with Crocodiles

In light of the golfer being bitten by a small crocodile in Port Douglas the day before yesterday it may be time to do a safety audit?

I know of at least 2 children's playgrounds where there are fake crocodiles for children to play with.
I also know of a set of swings next to a Crocodile warning sign near St Mary's by the sea.

Posted on Facebook this year near a bike/walking track near IGA.

We can and should do something about these things but in the end we have to live with crocodiles.
